George West Church of Christ
Our Pulpit Preacher:
Robert L. Gruver
Robert and Shirley Gruver moved to George
West on May 1, 2005, in order that he could
become our Pulpit Minister.  In a very unique
arrangement with the Elders and the
congregation, Robert's duties include preaching
two sermons on Sunday, teaching a Bible Class
or two of the Elder's choosing, marrying our
lovers (as requested), and burying our dead (as
requested).  He also engages in other church
activities as a Christian, joining us as we bring
glory and honor to our Lord and His Father.

Robert has been a life insurance agent for
twenty-two years and since he will continue to
pursue those interests and earn income from
that endeavor, the church is able to support him
financially with a reduced salary.

Robert spent seventeen years as a pulpit
minister for churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma,
Kansas, and Texas, before entering the life
insurance business in 1984.  He brings to our
pulpit Bible based lessons, presented with
enthusiasm and excitement, and motivates us to
higher standards in our living for Jesus.

The Gruvers are parents to four, Eric, Melissa,
Elana, and Matthew,  and grandparents to f
ive.

Robert received his education from Northeastern
State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma,
graduating in 1967.  His major was business
education, with minors in business
administration, psychology, and English.  Robert
enjoys woodworking and fishing as his hobbies.

Shirley has served as an elementary
administrator for several years.  She received
her education from the University of North Texas
with additional certificates from Texas A & M
Commerce.  She retired at the end of June 2006
after twenty-four years in education.  She looks
forward to pursuing other interests and spoiling
grandchildren.

Robert states:  "Coming to George West is a
great blessing for me.  The Elders, supported by
the congregation, were willing to go outside the
norm and hire me and allow me to continue my
insurance interests.
On April 29 we will
complete our second year in George West and
are looking forward to our third."
